The story+

This is the craft Jashore is known for, and it cannot be hurried. Old cotton saris are layered and basted, the kodom flower motif is drawn freehand in chalk, and then a single woman stitches the entire surface by hand — usually over two to three months. The running stitch quilts the layers together and creates that characteristic rippled surface. It will outlast all of us.

Details & materials+
  • Genuine hand-stitched nakshi kantha, 2–3 months of work
  • Layered cotton, quilted entirely by running stitch
  • Hand-drawn kodom flower motif — no two identical
  • Signed by the woman who stitched it

Care & repair+

Wipe with a dry cotton cloth after a humid day and condition leather twice a year — we include a tin of our beeswax balm with every leather piece. Keep jute out of prolonged damp and air it in the shade, never in direct Dhaka sun. Any seam that opens, we restitch free of charge, forever.

    An heirloom, honestly

Two to three months of one woman's work, and it shows. We keep ours on the guest bed and everyone asks about it.

    The real thing

I have seen machine-made 'kantha' sold in Dhaka for similar money. This is the genuine hand-stitched article and the difference is night and day.
